Uber Black is the premium, luxury ride from Uber. It was the first service Uber ever offered back in 2009, and today it focuses on giving you a high-end experience with professional drivers, luxury vehicles, and extra perks. What You Get With Uber Black
Choosing Uber Black gives you more than a regular ride. Here is what to expect:
- Professional Drivers: Uber Black drivers must maintain a rating of 4.85 or above and complete at least 100 trips on the platform. In most markets, they also need commercial auto insurance, which costs between $400 and $1,200 per month and offers higher coverage limits than standard rideshare insurance.
- Luxury Vehicles: Expect a high-end sedan or SUV, almost always black. Common models include the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and Cadillac Escalade. Starting in January 2026, Uber tightened its rules and removed several models from the Black category, including the Renault Kardian, Citroën Basalt, and Chery Tiggo 3X, to keep the fleet truly premium.
- Ride Preferences: You can set custom preferences like Quiet Mode if you do not want to chat, temperature control to cool or warm the car before you get in, and help with luggage.
- Priority Pickup: Uber Black requests often get priority, which can mean a shorter wait time. At select airports in Bengaluru and Mumbai, Uber has set up dedicated Black Zones for faster, seamless luxury pickups.
- Longer Free Wait Time: With Uber Black, your driver will wait up to 15 minutes at no extra charge, compared to 5 minutes for UberX and 10 minutes for Uber Black SUV. After that, wait time fees apply.
Even More Premium: Uber Elite
In March 2026, Uber launched a new tier called Uber Elite that sits above Uber Black. It is currently invite-only for frequent Black users and corporate customers in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York City, with more cities planned.
Uber Elite features commercially licensed professional chauffeurs driving new luxury vehicles less than three years old, such as the Cadillac Escalade, Lucid Air, and Lincoln Navigator. Each ride includes complimentary bottled water, mints, phone chargers, and hand wipes.
Riders can even request sparkling water or champagne ahead of time. Trips must be booked at least one hour in advance, and airport rides include a meet and greet option at baggage claim.

You can now schedule Uber Black rides ahead of time using the Uber Reserve feature. In many cities, including Delhi, you can book from 2 hours up to 90 days in advance and lock in your price. This is especially useful for airport trips and important appointments.
