Wollongong Taxi Fares Explained
In Wollongong, rank and hail taxi fares are regulated by Transport for NSW and use the urban area maximum because Wollongong is classed as an urban area. The meter must run for rank and hail trips, and the fare depends on where the trip starts: a journey beginning in the Wollongong urban area uses the urban fare even if most of it runs outside that area. Tolls are added, and card surcharges are capped at 5%.
Night rates apply from 10pm to 6am, with an extra peak time hire charge for trips starting late on Fridays, Saturdays and the night before public holidays. Waiting time is charged when the taxi is moving below 26 km/h. A Passenger Service Levy may apply. Multiple hire lets passengers heading the same way pay 75% of the maximum fare each; maxi-taxis with five or more passengers can charge up to 150%.
