Pereira Taxi Fares Explained

Taxi fares in Pereira are set each year by the Área Metropolitana Centro Occidente (AMCO), the body that regulates public transport across Pereira, Dosquebradas and La Virginia. From February 9, 2026 the new tariff took effect, so a ride starts with a banderazo flag drop of $1.800 and then adds $175 for every 80 meters traveled or 70 seconds of waiting.

Because the meter counts by distance and waiting time, a typical short city trip falls near the minimum fare of $7.300, while longer or airport runs climb higher. Authorized surcharges apply on top: entering Matecaña airport costs $3.300, leaving it costs $5.000, trips to motels add $3.300, and a night surcharge of $1.300 runs from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. During February 2026 more than 2,300 taxis are being recalibrated, and only vehicles displaying the official sticker may charge the new minimum fare.

About Taxis in Pereira 🚕

The Pereira taxi fleet is organized through local cooperatives such as Cooperativa de Taxis Consota (Cootaxconsota), Cooperativa de Taxis Luxor (Cootaxiluxor), Covichoralda and Cooperativa Integral Choferes de Pereira, all based in the city. Booking is usually done by phone dispatch or through apps like Taxia, while Uber Taxi arrived in Pereira and the Eje Cafetero in late 2024 through an alliance with TaxExpress.

Most cabs serve the whole metropolitan area including Dosquebradas and La Virginia, and run regular routes to Matecaña International Airport (PEI), the city's main air terminal. The airport carries specific meter surcharges for entry and exit. City center trips of about 20 minutes are commonly quoted around COP 26,000, reflecting the distance-based meter plus airport or night add-ons, and all rates are set in Colombian pesos.
