Canberra Taxi Fares Explained

Canberra taxi fares are set by the ACT’s maximum fare determination for 2026. For a standard taxi, the daytime flagfall is $6.00 and the kilometre rate is $2.50 on weekdays between 6 am and 9 pm, so a 10 km trip can be about $31 before waiting time or tolls.

Night and weekend trips are more expensive. The same standard taxi rate rises to a $6.15 flagfall and $2.80 per kilometre before 6 am, after 9 pm on weekdays, and all day Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays, so 10 km is about $34.15.

For larger groups, ACT sets a high-occupancy taxi fare with a $9.00 flagfall and $3.70 per kilometre in the daytime, which makes it more expensive per kilometre than a standard taxi. Waiting time is also charged separately at $62.20 per hour.
