Brisbane Taxi Fares Explained

Brisbane taxi fares are set by Queensland’s taxi fare structure, because Brisbane is in South East Queensland. The main meter charges are a flagfall of $3.70 on weekdays from 7am to 7pm, $6.00 at other times, plus $2.69 per kilometre and $1.01 per minute when the taxi is not moving.

For a simple example, a 10 km Brisbane trip with no waiting time would be about $30.60 before extras, based on $3.70 flagfall plus $26.90 distance charge. A shorter 5 km daytime trip with 3 minutes of waiting would be about $18.53 before tolls or surcharges.

You may also pay extra costs such as tolls, airport access fees, and a card surcharge of up to 5%. If you book a taxi, the booking fee is $1.80, and a receipt must show the fare breakdown if you ask for one.

About Taxis in Brisbane đźš•

Brisbane taxis can be taken from a rank, hailed on the street, or booked through a taxi or booked-hire company. The Queensland transport rules say the meter must start at the beginning of the trip unless you agree a fare in advance.

Taxis in Queensland are commonly identified by a distinctive maroon-and-white registration plate with a T and five numbers. Most taxis also have approved security cameras, and all vehicles must pass safety inspections every 12 months.

For safety, use licensed taxis or reputable booked services, check the plate and vehicle details, and ask for a receipt after the trip. If the driver refuses the trip, overcharges, or does not start the meter, the transport authority says to contact the service provider to resolve the complaint.

Brisbane taxi fares can be higher late at night, on weekends, or if the trip includes waiting time, tolls, or airport-related fees. For a rough comparison, a booked ride may sometimes be cheaper than a taxi, but that depends on demand and any surge pricing.

If you travel with luggage, Queensland’s taxi rules say there is no separate fare for carrying luggage. Multiple-passenger trips can be charged under a multiple-hire tariff, which is set at 75% of the standard fare for each passenger’s share.
