Blackpool Taxi Fares Explained
Blackpool's hackney carriage fares are set by Blackpool Council and published in a formal tariff table, not by a simple per-kilometre meter. Tariff 1 (weekdays 6am to 8pm) charges a £2.60 starting fare for the first 160 yards and then 20p for each further 160 yards, so the marginal rate works out to roughly £1.37 per kilometre after the flag drop.
Different tariffs apply at night, on weekends, and over Christmas and New Year, each with its own starting fare and yardage. Waiting time is charged separately, around 20p per 40 seconds, which is about £0.30 per minute. Blackpool Council approved a fare increase in July 2026, but the existing 2024 rates remain the currently applicable charges.

About Taxis in Blackpool 🚕
Blackpool has both licensed hackney carriages (black cabs that can be flagged down or wait at ranks) and private hire vehicles that must be pre-booked. Premier Taxis, also known as Premier Cabs, is the largest private hire operator and claims to run the biggest electric taxi fleet in the UK, while Blacktax Radio Taxis and Blackpool Cabs are other well-established local firms.
Bookings are made by phone or app, and private hire vehicles serve Blackpool, Bispham, Thornton, Cleveleys, Poulton and Layton. Blackpool Airport (BLK) sits just south of the town centre, about 5km from the promenade, and fares to and from the airport follow the standard council tariff, with pre-booked airport transfers offered by several local operators.
