In Baku, Yango dominates app-based taxis and shows a fixed price before booking. That price includes base fare, distance, time, plus surge multipliers during peak hours or rain.

Local firms like 189 Taxi and Baku Taxi often use meters, but drivers may prefer cash deals for known routes. Apps accept cash or card; street taxis usually take cash only.

A typical 5 km ride in central Baku costs about 5 to 7 AZN, while the airport to downtown is 20 to 30 AZN. Tipping is not expected, and receipts come only through the app.

Yango, 189 Taxi, Baku Taxi, Elite Taxi, and Angelo Taxi are the main taxi providers in Baku. Vehicles include white sedans and yellow-plated registered taxis under the 2024 taxi law.

Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) sits 25 km northeast of the center, with taxi ranks and app pickups outside arrivals. The drive to Fountain Square takes 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic.

Popular routes include airport to 28 May, Baku to Sumqayit (30 km), and Baku to Gobustan (60 km). Booking via Yango or phone is standard; street hailing is less common.

Since 2024, Azerbaijan requires taxis to be registered with special plates and drivers to hold taxi driver cards. Enforcement has reduced unlicensed cabs, but some private cars still operate informally.
